Distribution: N - Frl (Tretiach & Hafellner 2000), TAA (Roux & Triebel 1994, Caniglia & al. 2002, De Marco & al. 2003, Nascimbene & al. 2008c, 2022, Onofri & al. 2013), Lomb (Nascimbene 2006), Piem, VA (Piervittori & Isocrono 1999). C - Tosc (Benesperi & al. 2007).
Description: Thallus squamulose, of contiguous to imbricate, cochleate, glaucous green to yellowish green (bright green when wet), rounded to kidney-shaped, entire or slightly lobed, to 3(-5) mm wide squamules with whitish, inrolled margins, attached by a loose network of hyphae; lower surface whitish. Upper cortex paraplectenchymatous, several layers of cells thick, uneven in thickness, the algal cells distributed through the medulla in clumps; lower cortex thin. Clamp connections absent in all hyphae. Basidiocarps not lichenized, cream-coloured to apricot-yellow, sometimes fading to white, with a 10-15 mm wide, more or less convex, marginally striate cap with concolorous, weakly decurrent lamellae, and a 1-3 cm high, 2-3 mm thick, at first pale violet, then whitish, often finely pubescent (especially in upper part) stipe. Basidia clavate, with 4 sterigmata. Basidiospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid, 6-10 x 3-5 µm, thin-walled. Photobiont chlorococcoid (Coccomyxa). Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: thallus without lichen substances.
Note: a circumboreal-montane basidiolichen of wet mosses and peaty soil, more rarely found also on rotting wood in siliceous areas, near and above treeline.
Growth form: Squamulose
Substrata: soil, terricolous mosses, and plant debris
Photobiont: green algae other than Trentepohlia
