Synonyms: Calicium adspersum var. trabinellum (Ach.) Schaer.; Calicium incrustans Körb.; Calicium validiusculum Trevis.
Description: Thallus crustose, endosubstratic and poorly evident or rarely thinly episubstratic and granulose-verrucose, grey-green. Apothecia stalked, pin-like, black with a bright yellow pruina on the lower side of the capitulum and a well-developed, black mazaedium. Stalk black, epruinose, 0.6-0.9 mm high, 0.09-0.13 mm thick, of irregularly interwoven hyphae, the central part dark brown or aeruginose, of heavily sclerotized hyphae, the outer layer covered with a thin, paler, non-amyloid gelatinous sheath. Capitulum lenticular to obovoid, 0.2-0.3 mm across, with a well-developed, cup-shaped exciple of pale (in outer part) or dark (in inner part) cells; hypothecium blackish brown, with a convex upper surface. Asci cylindrical, formed singly, dissolving early, with uniseriately arranged ascospores. Ascospores 1-septate, dark brown, ellipsoid, 10-11 x 5-6 µm, with a thick, ornamented wall; young spores with mainly longitudinal ridges, old spores with irregular cracks and short ridge fragments. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-; ascomata I- in all parts. Chemistry: thallus without lichen substances; yellow pruina consisting of vulpinic acid.
