Apparatus of images: Andrea Moro - Software and databases: Stefano Martellos

This key includes a taxonomically very heterogeneous assemblage of species sharing the following characters: crustose, not placodioid thallus, a green, non-Trentepohlioid photobiont, simple ascospores, 8-32-spored asci, and non-lecanorine apothecia, excluding Protoblastenia and the Teloschistaceae with simple ascopores, for a total of 301 species. The following genera are included: Adelolecia, Ainoa, Amygdalaria, Aphanopsis, Aspilidea, Brianaria, Bryobilimbia, Calvitimela, Carbonea, Cecidonia, Cephalophysis, Clauzadea, Eiglera, Farnoldia, Frutidella, Fuscidea, Helocarpon, Hertelidea, Immersaria, Japewia, Japewiella, Lambiella, Lecidea, Lecidella, Lecidoma, Leimonis, Melanolecia, Miriquidica, Myochroidea, Orphniospora, Palicella, Parainoa, Placynthiella, Porpidia, Psilolechia, Puttea, Pycnora, Pyrrhospora, Ramboldia, Schaereria, Steinia, Stenhammarella, Trapelia, Trapeliopsis and Tremolecia. The key also includes species of Biatora and Micarea with simple ascopores, and species of Lecanora and Myriolecis with non-lecanorine apothecia. All species reported from Italy (Nimis 2016) are included, plus several species which are known from neighbouring Countries, especially in the Alps (Nimis & al. 2018), whose occurrence in Italy is possible.
More specific keys for Clauzadea, Farnoldia, Fuscidea and Melanolecia, Immersaria, Lecidella, Miriquidica, and Porpidia have been already published online in this series. Important keys to lecideoid lichens in Europe are those of Clauzade & Roux (1985), Hertel (1975, 1995, 2009), and Wirth & al. (2013).
