Description: Thallus crustose to subsquamulose, thick, of 0.2-0.5 mm wide, round areoles divided by cracks, the surface minutely nodulose, whitish, yellow-brown or rarely dark brown, becoming green when wet, epruinose. Apothecia lecanorine, broadly to narrowly sessile, round, 0.3-0.5(-0.8) mm across, with a flat to convex, pale brown to dark brown, rarely white-pruinose disc becoming translucent and dark-spotted when wet, and a pale grey to pale brown, rather thick, persistent thalline margin. Epithecium pale orange-brown- to dark brown-spotted, the pigment often extending deep into the hymenium; hymenium colourless in lower part, 60-85 µm high; paraphyses coherent, 2-3 µm thick, at least some of them strongly swollen at apices (to 5 µm wide), the apical cell colourless or externally pink-brown-pigmented; hypothecium colourless to rarely pale yellow. Asci 8-spored, narrowly clavate, with a K/I+ blue tholus and a central non-amyloid area, Bacidia-type. Ascospores (0-)1-septate, hyaline straight, not constricted at septum, oblong-ellipsoid, 11-15(-18) x 4.5-5.5(-7.5) µm, thin-walled. Pycnidia rare, immersed, the wall colourless, but red brown near ostiole. Conidia filiform, strongly curved, 14-20 x c. 0.8 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: a mild-temperate calcicolous species, often found on man-made, more or less calciferous substrata; in the past confused with L. erysibe and L. turicensis.
