Description: Thallus crustose, superficial, thin to usually thick, smooth to bullate-tuberculate, white-grey to dark grey, delimited by a shiny, thick, pinkish grey prothallus. Soralia usually well delimited, 1.5-3 mm diam., round to irregular, rarely confluent and forming a continuous sorediate crust, concolorous with thallus or beige grey to yellowish- or pinkish-grey, bearing coarse granular soredia. Apothecia rare, lecanorine, 2-4 mm across, with a flesh-coloured, non-pruinose, first concave then flat disc surrounded by a salmon-pink discoid tissue, and by a usually sorediate thalline margin. Proper exciple prominent, visible as a ring around thalline margin; hymenium colourless; hypothecium colourless to yellowish. Asci 8-spored with thick, amyloid walls, Pertusaria-type. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, thin walled, 30-45 x 13-22 μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C+ red, KC+ orange-red, P-, UV-. Chemistry: gyrophoric acid (major), lecanoric acid (minor or trace), plus 3 fatty acids ('androgyna B unknowns' sensu Tønsberg 1992).
Note: on bark and on steeply inclined faces of siliceous rocks in humid montane forests, sometimes also on soil and bryophytes. The Italian material should be checked: some samples might belong to O. bahusiensis H. Magn. or to O. mahluensis Räsänen (see Kukwa 2011).
Growth form: Crustose
Photobiont: green algae other than Trentepohlia
Reproductive strategy: mainly asexual, by soredia, or soredia-like structures (e.g. blastidia)
