Distribution: N - Ven (Nascimbene 2008, Nascimbene & al. 2008e, Muggia & al. 2010).
Description: Thallus crustose to subleprose, episubstratic, very thin, dull green. Cortical hyphae with inconspicuous papillae. Perithecia c. 0.1 mm across, prominent, pale brown when dry, almost translucent and colourless when wet; excipulum 10-12 μm thick, colourless or pale yellowish, of periclinally arranged hyphae; involucrellum absent. Hamathecium of periphyses, interascal filaments absent; hymenial gel I+ red. Asci 8-spored, fissitunicate, clavate-cylindrical to pyriform, thickened at apex when young, I-. Ascospores 1-3-septate, hyaline, narrowly ellipsoid, 12-20 x 3.5-4.5 μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: no lichen substances.
Note: optimum on the bark of Sambucus in shaded-humid situations. The species is included as “Critically Endangered” in the Italian red list of epiphytic lichens (Nascimbene & al. 2013c).
