Description: Thallus inapparent, the hyphae immersed into gelatinous algal films, probably not lichenized (perhaps a parasite of algal colonies). Perithecia globose, 0.1-0.13(-0.16) mm across, greyish, dark grey or black, surrounded by a thin, colourless gelatinous layer. Exciple of pigmented, periclinally oriented hyphae; paraphyses thin, thread-like, simple. Asci 16-spored, moderately thick-walled, non-fissitunicate, the entire ascus wall I+ and K/I+ blue, 40-55(-60) x 7-10 µm. Ascospores 1-septate, not constricted at septum, hyaline, ellipsoid with rounded ends, thin-walled, (6)8-12(-14) x 3-4 µm, without appendages at the ends. Photobiont absent but the species is associated with Coccomyxa-like or other chlorococcoid algae. Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: on algal films developing on acid siliceous rocks, plant debris, mosses or other lichens. To be looked for in Italy.
