Description: Thallus saprobic, not lichenized and not evident, growing on the thallus of Lepra corallina. Apothecia, at first immersed in the host thallus, then erumpent and broadly adnate, more or less round, 0.1-0.2(- 0.3) mm across, with a concave, ochraceous yellow to orange-yellow disc, and a white, initially slightly raised, finally lacerated, reduced or excluded proper margin. Proper exciple colourless of pale orange in outer part, small-celled paraplectenchymatous in outer part, without embedded crystals, c. 30 μm thick laterally, continuing as an hypothecium below the hymenium; epithecium colourless; hymenium colourless, 60-80 μm high, I+ fleetingly pale reddish, K/I+ blue; paraphyses thread-like, sparingly branched in upper part, c. 0.5 μm thick, the apical cells clavate, up to 2 μm wide; hypothecium colourless, 20-25 μm high.. Asci 8-spored, narrowly clavate to subcylindrical, shortly pedicellate, thin-walled, the apex thickened, rounded, K/I+ blue, without any clear apical structures. Ascospores 3-septate, not or only very slightly constricted at septa, hyaline, fusiform, (16-)18-22(-24) x (3.5-)4-5 μm. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: those of the host lichen. Chemistry: thallus without lichen substances.Note: recently-described from Austria (Tyrol), this non-lichenized, lichenicolous fungus grows on the thalli of Lepra cortallina. To be looked for in Italy.
