Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, areolate-subsquamulose, grey, developing on the thalli of Buellia tirolensis. Medulla white, I-. Apothecia lecideine, black, 0.3-0.5 mm across, sessile but not constricted at base, with a flat, epruinose disc, and a thin, prominent proper margin. Proper exciple 18-25 µm wide, Aethalea-type, the inner hyphae hyaline, prosoplectenchymatous, the outer hyphae parallel and usually strongly brown-pigmented, N-; epithecium brown; hymenium colourless, c. 55 µm high, without oil droplets; hypothecium dark brown, c. 100 µm high. Asci 8-spored, clavate to cylindrical-clavate, the apical dome K/I+ dark blue with a pale, conical-pointed apical cushion (axial mass), the wall I-, but the thin outer gel I+ blue, Bacidia-type. Ascospores 1-septate, not constricted at septum, brown, broadly oblong, 9-5-11 x 5-9 µm, Physconia-type, smooth-walled. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
