Distribution: S - Cal (Puntillo & Vezda 1994, Puntillo 1995, 1996, 2000, Sérusiaux 1996, 1998).
Description: Thallus crustose, thinly episubstratic, greenish to yellowish brown, farinose. Apothecia biatorine, sessile, rounded, bluish black, 0.3-0.5 mm across, with a flat to slightly convex disc and a usually paler proper margin. Exciple paraplectenchymatous, dark brown, K+ purple; without crystals; epithecium not well differentiated from the hymenium; hymenium colourless; paraphyses simple or sparingly branched, the apical cells slightly swollen; hypothecium dark reddish brown. Asci 8-spored, clavate, with a K/I+ blue apical dome containing a darker blue, tubular ring-structure, and an amyloid coat, Byssoloma-type. Ascospores 3-7-septate, hyaline, ellipsoid-fusiform, 14-17 x 2.5-4 μm. Pycnidia frequent, conical, black, slightly immersed. Conidia colourless, pyriform 3-4 x 1.5 μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus and apothecia K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: thallus without lichen substances.
Note: on needles of Abies and cladodes of Ruscus in humid woodlands. The species is included in the Italian red list of epiphytic lichens as “Endangered” (Nascimbene & al. 2013c).
