Distribution: N - TAA, Lomb (Valcuvia & al. 2003), Piem. C - Sar. S - Camp (Garofalo & al. 2010), Bas (Potenza & Fascetti 2005, 2012, Potenza 2006), Cal (Puntillo 1996), Si (Czeczuga & al. 1994, Grillo 1996, Grillo & al. 1996, Grillo 1998, Grillo & Caniglia 2004, Iacolino & Ottonello 2006).
Description: Thallus foliose to squamulose, gelatinous when wet, dark brownish-greenish black, forming cushions to 5 cm in diam. Lobes flattened, ascending, 3-5 mm broad, smooth, with rounded ends and undulate to crenulate margins, bearing granular isidia and abundant thin transparent hairs. Lower surface with sparse fasciculate rhizines. Upper and lower cortex paraplectenchymatous, formed by 1-3 layers of cells, 10-40 μm thick. Apothecia rare, adnate, 0.3-0.7(-1.5) mm across, with a brown, smooth, concave to flat disc and a hairy proper margin. Exciple paraplectenchymatous in section, covered in hairs; epithecium brownish; hymenium and hypothecium colourless; paraphyses branched, septate, swollen at apices. Asci 8-spored, clavate. Ascospores 1-septate, hyaline, narrowly ellipsoid, (15-)18-22(-26) x 5-7(-9) μm. Photobiont cyanobacterial, nostocoid. Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: a cool-temperate to arctic-alpine lichen found amongst bryophytes on rocks or on soil in open shrublands and grasslands on basic siliceous substrata.
