Distribution: N - Lomb (Breuss 1996b).
Description: Thallus squamulose, brown, matt, the squamules 1-3 mm wide, 0.2-0.4(-0.5) mm thick, contiguous, not overlapping, more or less convex, indistinctly lobulate, with down-turned margins; lower surface pale, attached by 4.5-5.5 μm thick, hyaline rhizohyphae. Upper cortex paraplectenchymatous, 25-30 μm thick, the cells 6-9 μm wide, covered with an up to 25 μm thick epinecral layer; lower cortex absent. Perithecia black, laminal, immersed in the squamules, pyriform, 0.25-0.3 μm across, without involucrellum. Exciple dark brown to brown-black throughout,of tangentially arranged, elongate cells; hymenium colourless, I+ reddish; paraphyses absent, substituted by 2.5-3 μm thick periphyses. Asci 8-spored, clavate, thin-walled, I-, apically slightly thickened, with a small ocular chamber. Ascospores 1-septate, hyaline, ellipsoid, 15-17 x 7-8 μm, thin-walled. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: cortex and medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: known only from the type collection, on soil in fissures of serpentine rocks.
