Description: Thallus crustose to subsquamulose, episubstratic, rather thin, ochraceous to olivaceous, composed of entire to sublobate squamules, sometimes with ascending margins. Apothecia lecanorine, 0.4-0.6(-1) mm across, with a dark brown to brown-black, flat to slightly convex disc, and an entire, persistent thalline margin. Epithecium orange-brown; hymenium colourless, up to 170 μm high, I+ blue; paraphyses 1.7-2.3 μm thick at mid-level, the apical cells up to 4.5 μm wide; hypothecium pale yellowish-brown. Asci 8-spored, clavate, the K/I+ blue tholus penetrated by a faintly amyloid apical cushion with parallel or diverging flanks, the wall K/I-, surrounded by a K/I+ blue outer layer, Lecanora-type. Ascospores 1-septate (rarely a few 3-septate), brown, ellipsoid, (20-)25-35(-40) x 11-18 μm, with thick walls and rounded lumina, Pachysporaria-type, the walls not ornamented but including globular inclusions surrounding the lumina, the ontogeny of type A (apical wall thickening after septum formation). Pycnidia black, immersed. Conidia 4.5-6 x c. 1.5 μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: on rough bark of trees such as Olea and Quercus ilex in more or less coastal, warm-humid areas; rare, and probably exclusively Tyrrhenian in Italy.
