Synonyms:

Distribution: C - Sar (Zedda 2002).

Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, ecorticate and sorediate, rather thick to (rarely) thin, continuous to rimose, pale pink when fresh, soon turning creamy white to glaucous grey in the herbarium, poorly delimited or rarely with a white to purple-black prothallus. Soralia developing from small warts, at first punctiform and to 1 mm across, but soon becoming confluent into irregular patches, concolorous with thallus. Apothecia unknown. Pycnidia rare, black, immersed. Conidia 6-7 x c. 1 μm, straight or curved. Photobiont trentepohlioid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P+ bright yellow, UV+ dull grey-orange. Chemistry: psoromic and 2-O-demethylpsoromic acids and variable amounts of an unidentified xanthone.

Note: a western species, never found fertile, found on the dry sides of trunks of old deciduous oaks in sheltered situations. Known from Sardinia, to be looked for further in Tyrrhenian Italy. It is included as “Critically Endangered” in the Italian red list of epiphytic lichens (Nascimbene & al. 2013c).
