Distribution: N - TAA (Thor & Nascimbene 2007, Nascimbene & al. 2022), Lomb (Nascimbene 2006).
Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, continuous to rimose, grey-green (in shade) to brown, greenish black when wet. Perithecia black, forming 0.5-0.7 mm wide projections, often almost completely covered by a thalline layer. Involucrellum of pseudoparenchymatous cells, progressively diverging from exciple and reaching the base of the perithecium; exciple dark brown in upper part, paler at base; hamathecium of periphyses and periphysoids, interascal filaments absent; hymenial gel hemiamyloid, I+ red (I+ blue at very low concentrations of I), K/I+ blue. Asci 8-spored, clavate, K/I-, fissitunicate, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, dehiscent by extrusion of an endotunica to form a delicate rostrum. Ascospores muriform, medium brown when mature, ellipsoid, (40-)55–65(-70) x (21-)29–36(-42) μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: a silicicolous species, periodically submerged in montane to Alpine creeks; poorly collected and perhaps more widespread in the Alps. For further details see Savic & Tibell (2009).
