Distribution: S - Cal (Puntillo 1996, Brackel & Puntillo 2016, Brackel 2016).
Description: Thallus not evident, not lichenized, parasitic on the thalli of cyanobacterial lichens (Collema, Scytinium). Apothecia lecideine, black, round, constricted at base, sometimes white-pruinose, up to 1 mm across, at first flat and marginate, finally convex and immarginate. Proper exciple grey-brown in outer part, pale to medium brown within, the pigmented parts K+ and N+ violet; epithecium grey, K+ and N+ violet, with calcium oxalate crystals; hymenium colourless, 50-60 µm high; paraphyses not conglutinated, simple or sparingly branched and anastomosing in upper part, thin-walled, the apical cell distinctly swollen and covered by a gelatinous pigment cap; hypothecium brownish, without crystals. Asci 8-spored, clavate, surrounded by a gelatinous I+ blue coat, with a well-developed I+ blue tholus, a I+ darker blue tube and a well-developed ocular chamber, Bacidia-type. Ascospores 1-septate, hyaline, fusiform to bacilliform, 14.5-21 x 3-4.5 µm. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: all negative, except the pigmented parts of apothecia. Chemistry: apothecia with the Sedifolia-grey pigment.
Note: a lichenicolous fungus growing on Scytinium lichenoides, S. diffractum and other Collemataceae, on steeply inclined to slightly rain-sheltered surfaces of weathered limestones wetted by rain in Mediterranean habitats.
