Description: Thallus not lichenized, immersed in the thallus of the host (endolithic lichens). Apothecia lecideine, black, 0.3-0.6 mm across, round, with a flat disc and a thin, finally often excluded proper margin. Proper exciple dark brown in outer part, paler within; epithecium dark violet-brown to violet-black, sometimes with a greenish tinge; hymenium colourless, I+ blue; paraphyses coherent, septate, often branched and anastomosing in upper part; hypothecium dark brown. Asci 8-spored, clavate, surrounded by a gelatinous I+ blue coat, with a well-developed I+ blue tholus with a I+ darker blue tube and a well-developed ocular chamber, Bacidia-type. Ascospores (0-)1-septate, hyaline, ellipsoid, (9-)11-18(-20) x 4-6 µm. Photobiont: absent. Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: a lichenicolous fungus growing on the thalli of calcicolous endolithic lichens, (e.g. Bagliettoa calciseda and Encephalographa elisae) at relatively low elevations; probably more widespread, but much overlooked.
