Description: Thallus crustose, endosubstratic or most commonly thinly hemiendosubstratic, and then consisting of scattered, 1-2 mm wide, whitish to beige areoles. Upper cortex poorly defined; algal layer very thin. Perithecia black, 1-3 per areole, 0.3-0.5 mm across, not covered by thallus, hemispherically projecting, the base leaving shallow pits in the rock. Involucrellum reaching to base-level, laterally 80-120 µm thick, becoming thicker (-150 µm) in lower part; exciple subglobose, 0.25-0.3 mm across, the wall dark throughout; hamathecium of 25-35 µm long periphyses and periphysoids, interascal filaments absent; hymenial gel hemiamyloid, I+ red (I+ blue at very low concentrations of I), K/I+ blue. Asci 8-spored, 75-90 × 25-30 µm, clavate, I-, fissitunicate, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, dehiscent by extrusion of an endotunica to form a delicate rostrum, Verrucaria-type. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid, 25-33 x 11-13 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: a poorly known species described from South Tyrol and also reported from the French Alps (Roux & coll. 2014), found on inclined surfaces of calciferous schists near or above treeline. According to Breuss (2016) the species is closely related to Parabagliettoa dufourii but it differs in the larger spores, and should be included in Parabagliettoa.
