Description: Thallus crustose, endosubstratic or hemiendosubstratic, whitish with small brown flecks, very finely rimose. Cortex poorly differentiated; algal layer very thin; medulla thin, without oil cells, richly inspersed with crystals. Perithecia black, deeply immersed in the rock, slightly projecting only with the periostiolar region. Involucrellum black, limited to the upper third of the perithecium, adpressed to exciple, c. 40 µm thick; exciple subglobose, c. 0.15 mm across, the wall colourless; hamathecium of 20-25 µm long periphyses and periphysoids, interascal filaments absent; hymenial gel hemiamyloid, I+ red (I+ blue at very low concentrations of I), K/I+ blue. Asci 8-spored, clavate, I-, fissitunicate, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, dehiscent by extrusion of an endotunica to form a delicate rostrum, Verrucaria-type. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid, 14-17 x 7-8 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances. Note: according to Breuss (2016) this species, described from the surroundings of Genova, is related to Parabagliettoa cyanea, but differs in the smaller perithecia with a more superficial involucrellum, and should be included in Parabagliettoa.
