Description: Thallus inapparent, not lichenized, developing inside the thalli of Lobothallia-species, the thalline hyphae I+ red. Apothecia arthonioid, usually crowded in marginal parts of the host thallus, black, flat to slightly convex, immersed to slightly emergent, usually covered by fragments of the host thallus, 0.3-1 mm across, without a proper margin. Proper exciple very poorly developed; epithecium brown, K+ dark olive-green, N+ dark orange; hymenium green-grey, 35-40 μm high, K-, K/I+ blue, I+ red, N-; paraphysoids branched and anastomosing, coherent, the apical cells 3-6 μm wide; hypothecium almost colourless to brown, K-, K/I-, N+ dark orange. Asci 8-spored, clavate, semi-fissitunicate, with a large apical dome, a distinct ocular chamber, and a K/I+ ring-structure in tholus. Ascospores 1-septate, hyaline, ellipsoid, 11-12.5 x 4.5-5 μm. Pycnidia subglobose, immersed, the wall brown in upper part. Conidia bacilliform, straight or slightly curved, 5-6 x c. 0.8 μm. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
