Thelidium subabsconditum Eitner

Jahresber. schles. Ges. vaterl. Cultur: 54, 1910.
Synonyms: Thelidium circumvallatum Zschacke ?
Distribution: N - TAA (Nascimebene & al. 2021, 2022).
Description: Thallus crustose, thinly episubstratic, bluish grey to pale brown, smooth or finely granulose. Perithecia black, globose, 0.1-0.2 mm across, completely immersed and not evident from above, or visible only for the punctiform ostiolar region, sometimes surrounded by a thalline swelling or a paler circular area. Involucrellum absent; hamathecium of periphyses and periphysoids, interascal filaments absent; hymenial gel I+ red (I+ blue at very low concentrations of I), K/I+ blue. Asci 8-spored, ellipsoid to clavate, I-, fissitunicate, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, dehiscent by extrusion of a delicate rostrum. Ascospores. 1-septate, hyaline, ellipsoid, 18-23 x 7-9(-11) µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: widespread in the Alps (Nimis et al. 2018a) on inclined surfaces of compact calciferous rocks in rather shaded, non-eutrophicated situations near or above treeline. Since it was not always distinguished from similar species, it has an apparently incomplete distribution in the Alps.
