Description: Thallus crustose, thinly episubstratic, not subgelatinous when wet, greyish-brown, forming up to 2 cm wide patches. Perithecia black, 0.33-0.44 mm across, hemispherically projecting, the lower half immersed in deep pits in the rock. Involucrellum adpressed to exciple, 90-120 μm in diam. reaching down at least to mid-level; exciple c. 0.2 mm across, the wall colourless to pale brown; hamathecium of simple or sparingly branched periphyses and periphysoids measuring c. 30-35 x 1.5-2 μm, interascal filaments absent; hymenial gel hemiamyloid, I+ red (I+ blue at very low concentrations of I), K/I+ blue. Asci 8-spored, clavate, I-, fissitunicate, the wall thickened above, Verrucaria-type. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid to oblong, 14-17 x 7-8(-9) μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: a very poorly known species, found on dolomite near a waterfall, only known from the type locality in South Tyrol (Italy), above Bad Razzes. The description is integrated with annotations on the type material (M) by J. Pykälä.
