Description: Thallus crustose, not lichenized, reduced to small (0.11-0.18 mm in diam.), scattered fruiting warts which are yellow-pruinose at least around the ostiole. Ascocarps frequent, perithecioid, immersed in the warts, with a concave, not exposed disc (the warts opening though a small pore). Exciple colourless, c. 30 µm thick in upper part, c. 20 µm thick in lower part, devoid of algae; paraphyses absent; periphyses richly branched, easily detached, the longest ones c. 12 µm long and arranged around the ostiole, the other shorter, on the sides; hymenial gel I+ yellow turning red, K/I+ blue. Asci many-spored, flask-shaped, persistent, thin-walled, the wall I-, not thickened at apex. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, globose, thin-walled, 3.5-6 μm wide. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-. Chemistry: yellow pruina with pulvinic acid derivatives.
Note: an ephemeral, non-lichenized species found on stones and plant debris; rare in Central Europe, including the Eastern Alps (Austria). To be looked for in Italy.
