S - Camp, Bas (Puntillo & al. 2012), Cal (Puntillo 1996), Si (Czeczuga & al. 1994, Ottonello & Romano 1997, Grillo & Caniglia 2004, Brackel 2008b, Ottonello & al. 2011).

Description: Thallus fruticose, greenish to greenish grey, of flattened, strap-shaped, 3-8 cm long, 1-6 mm wide, ascending to prostrate laciniae often forming extensive colonies. Laciniae wrinkled, often longitudinally lacerated or dissected, with numerous elongate, raised pseudocyphellae bearing isidia-like granules. Apothecia very rare, lecanorine, mostly terminal, but sometimes marginal in large specimens, with a cup-shaped, greenish disc and a minutely verrucose margin. Asci 8-spored, clavate, Bacidia-type. Ascospores 1-septate, hyaline, broadly ellipsoid, 12-16 x 4-6 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus and medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-. UV-. Chemistry: cortex with usnic acid; medulla without lichen substances.

Note: on the top of isolated siliceous boulders manured by birds, e.g. in grasslands and pastures, common only wherever suitable substrata are present, especially in the mountains of Southern Italy (e.g. Sila Massif in Calabria, siliceous mountains of Sardinia).
