Description: Thallus crustose, thinly episubstratic, smooth, grey-green when dry, green and slightly gelatinous when wet, continuous, ecorticate. Perithecia black, scattered or rarely crowded, largely immersed in lower part, sometimes hemispherically projecting with the uppermost part, globose to ovoid, with a shiny, flattened apical part, (0.5-)0.6-0.9 mm across. Involucrellum absent; exciple very thick, brown-black, carbonaceous, fragile, often thinner in lower part; hamathecium of periphyses and periphysoids, interascal filaments absent; hymenial gel amyloid, I+ blue. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical-clavate, degenerating early. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid or ovoid, 26-36 x 12-16 μm, often with a large oil droplet in the center. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: a rare species of slightly calciferous soil in dry Mediterranean grasslands. The name is illegitimate and would require conservation.
