Lecanora vinetorum Poelt & Huneck
Österr. bot. Z., 115: 414, 1968.
Synonyms:
Distribution: N - TAA.
Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, subsquamulose-areolate, yellowish to golden-yellow. Areoles 1-2 mm wide, rather thick, irregularly crenulate, mostly convex, the central ones contiguous, the peripheral ones often scattered, often poorly visible, the surface being mostly occupied by apothecia. Apothecia lecanorine, 0.4-1.2 mm across, round to angular or strongly irregular by mutual compression, with a flat to slightly convex, brown-black, sometimes pruinose disc, and a rather thick, smooth to strongly crenulate, brighter yellow thalline margin. Thalline exciple corticate, the cortex up to 50 μm thick, densely inspersed with 3-10 μm wide granules, the medulla rich in algal cells; epithecium yellowish brown, inspersed with granules; hymenium colourless, 50-60 μm high; paraphyses coherent, c. 1.5 μm thick, the apical cells to 3,5 μm wide; hypothecium colourless, 20-40 μm high. Asci 8-spored, clavate, very thin-walled, with a K/I+ blue, tall tholus penetrated by a faintly amyloid apical cushion, the wall K/I-, surrounded by a blue outer layer, Lecanora-type. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid, 8.5-11 x 5-6,5 μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot test: thallus K-, C+ yellow, KC+ yellow, P-. Chemistry: thallus with vinetorin (5-chloro-3-O-methylnorlichexanthone), plus other xanthones. Note: a very poorly known species, characterised by the presence of vinetorin; apparently locally common on poles in the vineyards of South Tyrol.
