Distribution: N - Ven, TAA (Thor & Nascimbene 2007, Nascimbene & al. 2007b, 2022, Nimis & al. 2015).
Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, usually thin, continuous and smooth to finely verruculose, mostly whitish. Apothecia lecideine, 0.3-0.6 mm across, dark brown to blackish brown, appressed, with a flat to finally convex disc, and a thin, usually persistent but often finally excluded proper margin. Proper exciple colourless in outer part, brown-black to dark red-brown within; epithecium brown; hymenium colourless; paraphyses coherent; hypothecium brown-black to dark red-brown, without blue-violet granules. Asci 8-spored, narrowly clavate. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid, 9-12 x 4-5 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-. Chemistry: not known, probably without lichen substances.Note: a probably circumboreal species found on conifers, especially Picea, rarely on acid-barked deciduous trees such as Betula and Sorbus aucuparia in upland areas. According to Printzen (1995) it is closely related to Lecidella.
