Synonyms:
Distribution: N - Frl (Hafellner & al. 2014), TAA (Hafellner & al. 2014), Lomb (Hafellner & al. 2014), Piem (Hafellner & al. 2014).
Description: Thallus crustose, finely areolate, to 6 cm diam., developing on the thalli of Sporastatia-species, the areoles grey and matt to olive-grey or brownish grey, and then somewhat glossy due to an epinecral layer above the cortex, smooth, more or less convex, c. 0.7-1.5 mm wide. Medulla white, I-. Apothecia black, tightly adpressed to semi-immersed (but not aspicilioid), 0.2-0.5(-0.8) mm across, with a flat to subconvex disc and a persistent, thin, somewhat glossy proper margin. Proper exciple red-brown in outer part, occasionally with a violet hue, merging to olive-brown in upper part, paler within; epithecium grey-brown to dark olive-brown; hymenium colourless, 40-55 µm high; paraphyses mostly simple or sparingly branched in upper part, c. 1-2 µm thick, the apical cells hardly to slightly enlarged, to 3-4 µm wide, embedded in a pigmented gel; hypothecium colourless or sometimes slightly brownish at base. Asci 8-spored, clavate, approaching the Lecanora-type, but with a well-developed, weakly amyloid tholus and a relatively narrow, non-amyloid axial mass. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid, 9-11(-12) x 4.5–5.5(-6) µm. Pycnidia black, immersed. Conidia thread-like, curved or straight, 20-30(-40) x c. 1 µm. Photobiont: chlorococcoid. Spot tests: cortex K-, C-, KC-, P-; medulla K+ yellow, C-, KC-, P+ orange-red. Chemistry: miriquidic and stictic acids (major), constictic acid (minor or traces).
Note: an obligate parasite on Sporastatia polyspora, widely distributed in the Alps with optimum above treeline, and also known from the mountains of the Iberian and Balkan Peninsulas.
Growth form: Crustose
Substrata: rocks
Photobiont: green algae other than Trentepohlia
Reproductive strategy: mainly asexual, by soredia, or soredia-like structures (e.g. blastidia)
