Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, yellowish or ochraceous, rimose-areolate, mostly smooth, sorediate. Soralia eroded to erumpent, 0.3-0.5 mm across, sometimes confluent and covering almost the whole thallus. Apothecia not observed in Italian material. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K+ yellow turning red, C-, KC+ fleeting violet (reaction best observed on a microscopic slide), P+ yellow. Chemistry: norstictic and picrolichenic acids; Note: a Mediterranean-Macaronesian silicicolous species, for Italy hitherto known only from Sardinia and the island of Linosa, which hosts an interesting group of vascular plants with Macaronesian affinities.
