Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, thin and film-line to verruculose, bluish-grey to greenish grey. Perithecia black, initially globose, then flask-shaped, immersed in the thallus and/or in the substratum and projecting only with the apical part, 0.5-0.7 mm across. Involucrellum absent; exciple 30-40 μm thick, brown-black throughout; hamathecium of periphyses and periphysoids, interascal filaments absent; hymenial gel I+ red, K/I+ blue. Asci 8-spored, clavate, K/I-, fissitunicate, the wall thickened above, with a broad ocular chamber, dehiscent by extrusion of an endotunica to form a delicate rostrum. Ascospores muriform, at first hyaline then brown, ellipsoid, slightly narrower and more pointed at one end, 40-55 x 20-25 μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
