Description: Thallus crustose, mostly endosubstratic, rarely thinly episubstratic in older parts, continuous or slightly cracked, pink, grey or brownish. Perithecia black, 0.2-0.4 mm across, half-immersed in pits of the rock to almost superficial. Involucrellum of thick-walled, more or less elongated cells, purple-violet to purplish brown (Sagedia-red pigment), K+ dark blue-grey to dark grey-brown; exciple at first colourless in lower part, then soon darkening: paraphyses simple or rarely branched; hymenial gel I-, K/I-. Asci 8-spored, clavate-cylindrical, thin-walled throughout, functionally unitunicate, dehiscent by rupture of the apex, with no extruded inner layers, I-, K/I-. Ascospores 3-septate, hyaline, narrowly ellipsoid, 15.5-23.5 x (3.5-)4-6(-7) μm. Pycnidia black, more or less immersed in pits. Conidia oblong, straight to slightly curved, 3.3-4.5 x c. 1.2 μm. Photobiont trentepohlioid. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-. Chemistry: thallus without lichen substances.Note: a mainly mild-temperate species found on limestone in sheltered situations, mostly near the ground, often with Acrocordia conoidea.
