S - Camp (Garofalo & al. 1999, Aprile & al. 2003b), Pugl (Garofalo & al. 1999, Nimis & Tretiach 1999, Durini & Medagli 2004, Brackel 2011), Bas (Brackel 2011), Cal (Incerti & Nimis 2006), Si (Brackel 2008b).
Description: Thallus greenish grey, fruticose, at first tufted then long-pendent, to 20 cm long, stiff and hard when dry, the laciniae strap-shaped, sparingly branched, 2-3(-5) mm wide, typically canaliculate, the surface smooth, with punctiform pseudocyphellae. Medulla solid. Apothecia usually frequent, marginal to subterminal, most often originating on the bends of angled branches, lecanorine, with a pale pink-ochre disc and a thin thalline margin. Epithecium pale olive-brown; hymenium and hypothecium colourless; paraphyses thick-walled, richly branched in upper part. Asci 8-spored, clavate to cylindrical-clavate, the apical dome K/I+ dark blue with a pale, conical-pointed apical cushion (axial mass) never penetrating through the entire d-layer, the wall K/I-, but the thin outer gel K/I+ blue, Bacidia-type. Ascospores 1-septate, hyaline, straight, 10-16 x 5-7 µm. Photobiont: chlorococcoid. Spot tests: medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: cortex with usnic acid; medulla rarely with substances of the sekikaic acid complex. Note: a mainly temperate species found on deciduous, more rarely coniferous trees, especially on branches in humid beech forests. Several earlier Italian records require confirmation, that from Venezia Giulia (see Nimis 1993: 596) was due to a misidentification.
