Distribution: C - Umb (Ravera & al. 2016), Laz (Nascimbene & Ravera 2014).
Description: Thallus crustose, endosubstratic or thinly episubstratic, pale grey-green, continuous to cracked, very thin, often poorly evident. Apothecia 0.2-0.4 mm across, at first immersed in the thallus and almost perithecioid, later adnate and urceolate, with a finally expanded, concave, pinkish to brownish disc, and a thick, prominent, sometimes crenulate, whitish or yellowish white proper margin. Proper exciple well developed laterally, the outer part of small, thin-walled, angular cells, the inner part with rectangular cells ending in periphysoids; hymenium colourless, I+ blue at least in upper part; paraphyses slender, simple, slightly swollen at apex; hypothecium colourless. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical-clavate, with a single, thin, K/I- wall layer, and an amyloid exoascus without a ring structure. Ascospores 8-10-septate, hyaline, acicular, (45-)50-60 x 4-5 µm, surrounded by a gelatinous halo. Photobiont trentepohlioid. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.Note: a Mediterranean-Atlantic epiphytic species, mostly found on Quercus in shaded and humid stands, known from a few localities only. The species likely belongs to Karstenia (see Cannon & al. 2024).
