Mitt. bot. Staatss. München, 29: 525, 1990.
Synonyms:
Distribution: S - Cal, Si (Campisi & al. 2020).
Description: Thallus crustose, pale yellowish green, forming small patches on the thalli of epilithic aspicilioid lichens, the infection starting as a discolouration of the host thallus, from the margins of its areoles. Areoles round to angular, flat, up to 1 mm wide. Medulla white, I+ blue. Apothecia lecideine, black, mostly angular, 0.3-0.7 mm across, level with thallus or slightly raised, mostly developing inbetween the areoles. Epithecium brown; hymenium pale green; paraphysoids strongly conglutinate, richly branched and anastomosing, apically clavate. Asci 4-8-spored, clavate, fissitunicate, with a well-developed tholus, lacking an ocular chamber, Rhizocarpon-type. Ascospores submuriform, with 8-10 cells visible in optical view, at first hyaline, then grey, broadly ellipsoid to subglobose, 17-22 x 11-13 μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P+ yellow. Chemistry: cortex with rhizocarpic acid; medulla with psoromic acid.
Note: on silicicolous species of Aspicilia s.lat. in upland areas; probably occurring also in the Alps.
