Description: Thallus crustose, areolate, bright yellow-green, parasitic on the thalli of Lecidea lapicida s.l., forming orbicular, 1-4 mm wide patches on the thalli of the host, usually without a distinct prothallus. Areoles crescent-shaped around the apothecia, 0.2-0.6(-0.8) mm wide, convex, smooth. Medulla white, I+ blue. Apothecia black, lecideine, angular to round, 0.2-0.5(-0.8) mm across, surrounded for 1/2-2/3 by an areole, isolated on in groups of 2, with a more or less flat disc and a soon excluded proper margin. Proper exciple and epithecium reddish brown, K+ red; hymenium colourless, c. 100 µm high; paraphysoids branched and anastomosing, 1-2 µm thick at base, the upper cell slightly swollen and to 4 µm wide; hypothecium brown. Asci 8-spored, clavate, fissitunicate, with a well-developed tholus, lacking an ocular chamber, Rhizocarpon-type. Ascospores (1-)3-septate, rarely submuriform and with a single transverse septum, soon becoming dark green to brown, ellipsoid, 17-26 x 6.5-9.5 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: medulla K-, C-, KC-, P+ yellow. Chemistry: cortex with rhizocarpic acid; medulla with psoromic acid. Note: on mineral-rich siliceous rocks near and above treeline, starting the life-cycle on the thalli of Lecidea lapicida s.lat.; certainly more widespread in the Alps.
