Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, rather thin, cream-coloured to pale brown, glossy, continuous to rimose, or of small, scattered, irregular areoles, covered in papilliform, up to 200 µm wide and 300 µm high, globose to cylindrical, scattered blastidia mainly developing along the margins of the areoles. Epinecral layer thick, giving the thallus a waxy appearance. Apothecia lecanorine, with a flat to convex, brown disc, and a thin, smooth to crenulate thalline margin. Epithecium brown; hymenium and hypothecium colourless. Asci 8-spored, clavate, the K/I+ blue tholus penetrated by a faintly amyloid apical cushion with parallel or diverging flanks, the wall K/I-, surrounded by a K/I+ blue outer layer, Lecanora-type. Ascospores 1-septate, brown, ellipsoid, (16-)19-23 x 8-11 µm, Pachysporaria-type. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: this epiphytic species was recently reported as new to Europe from an oak forest of South Tyrol. The ecological indicator values are tentative.
