Synonyms:
Distribution: N - Frl. C - Tosc (TSB 35304). S - Cal (Puntillo & Puntillo 2004, Puntillo 2011), Si (Nimis & al. 1996b).
Description: Thallus crustose, thinly episubstratic, subgelatinous when wet, dark brown to dark greenish brown, consisting of minutely granulose goniocyst-like units with a brown pigment at surface. Perithecia black, forming projections 0.15-0.25(-0.3) mm across, partly immersed in thallus. Exciple brown throughout; involucrellum absent; hymenium colourless, I+ reddish; hymenial algae isodiametrical to shortly oblong; hamathecium of periphyses and periphysoids, interascal filaments absent. Asci 8-spored, clavate, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, after dehiscence with a delicate extruded endotunica, I-, K/I-. Ascospores muriform, hyaline to yellowish brown when old, ellipsoid, 28-35(-37) x 11-18 μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid (Stichococcus), present in both thallus and hymenium. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: on soil amongst bryophytes and on plant debris on more or less calcareous substrata, apparently with a wide altitudinal range. This taxon, however, deserves further study.
Growth form: Crustose
Substrata: soil, terricolous mosses, and plant debris
Photobiont: green algae other than Trentepohlia
Reproductive strategy: mainly sexual
Poorly known taxon in need of further study
