Description: Thallus inapparent, the hyphae immersed into gelatinous algal films , probably not lichenized (perhaps a parasite of algal colonies). Ascocarps perithecioid, globose, (0.07-)0.09-0.12(-0.15) mm across, greenish or greyish-black, surrounded by a 4-15 µm thick, colourless gelatinous coat, with a depression around the ostiole visible in the dry state. Exciple of periclinally oriented hyphae, dull green in upper part, otherwise colourless; paraphyses thread-like, 1-1.5 μm thick, mostly simple. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical-clavate, moderately thick-walled, non-fissitunicate, the entire ascus wall I+ and K/I+ blue, (34-)40-55(-60) x 8-10(-12) µm. Ascospores (0-)1-septate, slightly constricted at septum, with slightly unequal cells (soleiform), hyaline, thin-walled, (8-)8.5-12(-14) x 3.5-4.5(-6) μm, without appendages at the ends. Photobiont absent but the species is associated with Coccomyxa-like or other chlorococcoid algae. Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: without lichen substances.Note: on algal colonies developing on muribund silicicolous bryophytes, squamules of Cladonia, decaying wood and humus, with optimum near treeline; certainly overlooked, and more widespread in the Alps.
