Description: Thallus crustose, non-lichenized, mostly endosubstratic, continuous, appearing as a whitish fleck. Perithecia black, 0.2-0.35(-0.45) mm across, covered by a grey, thin thalline layer in the basal part, naked in the apical part. Involucrellum brown-black, dimidiate, adhering to exciple; exciple brown-black in upper part, paler in lower part, N-, K+ greenish brown; hamathecium of persistent pseudoparaphyses, which appear moderately branched and anastomosing in lactophenol cotton blue, but almost simple in water. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical-clavate, thick-walled, the inner wall thickened towards apices, with a shallow, broad ocular chamber. Ascospores muriform, hyaline, ellipsoid, 22-35(-54) x 11-14.5(-22) µm, surrounded by an epispore well visible in K. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: on the bark of evergreen Mediterranean shrubs, especially Myrtus. Poorly known, perhaps overlooked in Mediterranean Italy.
