Leptorhaphis amygdali (A. Massal.) Zwackh
Flora, 65: 565, 1862. Basionym: Campylacia amygdali A. Massal. - Sched. Crit., 10: 184, 1856.
Synonyms: Leiophloea amygdali (A. Massal.) Trevis.; Sagedia amygdali (A. Massal.) Jatta
Distribution: N - Ven (Lazzarin 2000b). S - Pugl.
Description: Thallus inapparent, doubtfully lichenized. Perithecia dark brown to black, shiny, smooth, scattered singly, orbicular to ellipsoid, 0.18-0.32 mm across, hemispherical to flattened, mammiform, not surrounded by a distinct dark fringe (or with a thin fringe visible under the microscope), with a central ostiole located in a small depression. Involucrellum brown to greenish-black, c. 15-18 µm thick, sometimes extending beyond the perithecium in a basal fringe composed of bark material mixed with brown to green-black, smooth, thin- walled, c. 4-5.5 µm thick hyphae constricted at septa, reacting K/I+ reddish brown, forming a clypeus of elongated, radiating cells of textura intricata, becoming in places pseudoparenchymatous; exciple not differentiated or 10-15 µm thick, not continuous at the base of the hamathecium; pseudoparaphyses (1.5-)2-2.5 µm thick; hymenial gel I+ pale blue. Asci 8-spored, clavate, bi- and fissitunicate, with a rounded to truncate apex and biseriately arranged spores. Ascospores 1-septate, hyaline, fusiform with pointed apices, curved, (15-)20-32(-38) x 3-5 µm. Photobiont probably absent (but chlorococcoid algae were sometimes observed around the ascomata). Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: mostly on Prunus dulcis, but also on Olea and other trees.
