Description: Thallus not evident, not lichenized. Apothecia stalked, dark grey to black, up to 0.5 mm high. Stalk brown, reddish in section at least in the outer part, consisting of thick-walled, periclinally arranged hyphae. Capitulum black, epruinose, subglobose, 0.1-0.3 mm across; mazaedium absent. Exciple of several layers of brown, periclinally arranged, sclerotized hyphae, the inner ones often with an aeruginose tinge; epithecium thin, dark brown. Asci 8-spored, narrowly cylindrical, with a thickened apex, formed singly from hooked ascogenous hyphae, with uniseriately arranged ascospores, persisting until the ascospores are mature. Ascospores indistinctly 1(-3)-septate, medium brown, ellipsoid, 13-29 x 7-9 μm. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: not known. Chemistry: probably without lichen substances.Note: on base-rich bark, mostly of Fraxinus, certainly declining: the record from Marche is the first one from Italy in this century.
