Distribution:
Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, 0.7-1 mm thick, grey-brown, verruculose-areolate, the areoles convex, separated by deep cracks. Perithecia 0.25-0.4 mm across, globose, usually 1 per areole, slightly projecting with the apical part, but mostly immersed in the thallus. Exciple black in the periostiolar region, colourless below; hymenial gel I+ red (I+ blue at very low concentrations of iodine), K/I+ blue; hymenial algae ellipsoid, 3.5-5.5 x 2.5-4 μm; hamathecium of periphyses and periphysoids, interascal filaments absent. Asci 8-spored, clavate, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, after dehiscence with a delicate extruded endotunica, I-, K/I-. Ascospores 4-septate, at first hyaline but soon turning dark brown to black, narrowly ellipsoid, 22-24 x 9-11 μm, halonate. Photobiont chlorococcoid, present in both thallus and hymenium. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
