Description: Thallus inapparent, not lichenized, forming discoloured patches on the thalli and apothecia of Polyozosia-species. Apothecia arthonioid, black, epruinose, slightly convex, irregularly rounded, 0.2-0.4 mm wide. Proper exciple very poorly developed; epithecium olive-green to dark brown, K-, I+ rust-red, K/I+ blue; hymenium olive-green, c. 45 μm high, I+ wine-red, K/I+ blue; paraphysoids branched and anastomosing, c. 1.5 μm thick, the apical cells swollen; hypothecium brown-black. Asci 4(-6)-spored, broadly clavate or obovate, semi-fissitunicate, with a large apical dome and a distinct ocular chamber, the apex with a K/I+ blue, elongated ring structure and paler bluish tholus flanks, Arthonia-type. Ascospores 1-septate, hyaline, ellipsoid, 10-12 x 5-6 μm, smooth-walled. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.Note: a lichenicolous fungus described from Bulgaria, growing on saxicolous species of Polyozosia. Never reported from Italy, but to be looked for there.
