Description: Thallus inapparent, not lichenized, with hyaline vegetative hyphae immersed in the thallus of black-fruited Pyrenodesmia-species. Apothecia arthonioid, developing on the cortex of the host, more or less round, adnate, 0.2-0.4 mm across, with a jet black, convex disc, without a proper margin. Proper exciple poorly developed; epithecium pale red brown, K-; hymenium colourless, pale brown or olive-green, I+ wine-red, K/I+ blue; paraphysoids branched and anastomosing, the apical cells hardly swollen; hypothecium pale red-brown, K+ olive-green. Asci 8-spored, broadly clavate to subglobose, semi-fissitunicate, with a large apical dome and a distinct ocular chamber, Arthonia-type. Ascospores 1-septate, with subequal, subglobose cells, hyaline, 12-15 x 6-7 µm, with a gelatinous perispore. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: a lichenicolous fungus growing on the thalli of black-fruited Pyrenodesmia-species; described from Greece, to be looked for in Italy.
