Distribution:
Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, effuse, granulose, encrusting silicicolous mosses. Perithecia 0.3-0.4 mm across, at first red-brown, finally brown-black to black, often remaining brown around the slightly depressed ostiole. Involucrellum dull purple, K+ dark grey to brown; exciple reddish brown; paraphyses mostly simple, thread-like, persistent. Asci 8-spored, thin-walled, with a more or less truncate apex, with no extruded inner layers, I-, K/I-. Ascospores 3-5(-7)-septate, hyaline, fusiform, 25-39 x 5–8 μm. Photobiont trentepohlioid. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-. Chemistry: thallus without lichen substances.
Note: encrusting silicicolus bryophytes (Andreaea) and plant debris in the subalpine and alpine belts; rare in the Central European mountains, with a few records from the Eastern Alps (Austria); to be looked for in the Italian Alps.
