Distribution:
Description: Thallus squamulose to subcrustose, consisting of small, densely proliferating, olivaceous green to medium brown, epruinose, dull, 3-5 mm wide squamules forming a thick, continuous crust or remaining discrete. Upper cortex from almost absent to up to 20 μm thick, sometimes with a thin epinecral layer, lacking crystals; algal layer filling the inner part of the squamules; medulla and lower cortex not differentiated. Apothecia lecideine, black, epruinose, up to 1.8 mm across, flat and indistinctly marginate when young, soon becoming convex and immarginate. Proper exciple medium brown to dark brown throughout or with a somewhat darker rim, K-, N-, lacking crystals; epithecium dark green, K-, N+ violet, lacking crystals; hymenium colourless, 60-70 μm high, I+ blue; paraphyses not conglutinated, simple or sparingly branched and anastomosing in upper part, thin-walled, the apical cell distinctly swollen and covered by a gelatinous pigment cap; hypothecium dark brown, lacking crystals. Asci 8-spored, clavate, surrounded by a gelatinous I+ blue coat, with a well-developed I+ blue tholus, a I+ darker blue tube and a well-developed ocular chamber, Bacidia-type. Ascospores 3-septate, hyaline, bacilliform to acicular, 27-41 x 2-3 μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: thallus with terpenoids (green spots in TLC).
