Distribution: N - VG (Tretiach 1992).
Description: Thallus not evident, not lichenized, immersed in the thallus of the host lichen. Apothecia black, at first rounded then elongate, 0.15-0.5 x 0.1-0.2 mm, scattered or in clusters of 2-5, with an exposed disc and a rather thick, raised proper margin. Proper exciple prosoplectenchymatous, dark brown; epithecium brown; hymenium colourless, I+ blue; paraphyses thread-like, branched and anastomosing, capitate, the apical cells swollen, up to 3.5 μm wide; hypothecium brownish. Asci elongate-clavate, thickened at apex and with an internal apical beak, K/I-. Ascospores 1-septate, at first hyaline then pale brown, sole-shaped, 18-22 x 9-12 μm, without a perispore. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances. Note: a lichenicolous fungus growing on calcicolous endolithic lichens, mostly Verrucariaceae; the Italian sample, however, was growing on Petractis clausa.
