Bot. Jahrb., 96, 1-4: 341, 1975
Synonyms:
Distribution: N - TAA (Döbbeler 1978).
Description: Thallus crustose, very thinly episubstratic, pale grey or greenish grey, forming small patches on moribund or dead leaflets of Hylocomium splendens. Apothecia numerous, scattered, convex-hemispherical, adnate or rarely slightly constricted at base, black or rarely grey when young or when lacking pigment, with a pale blue-green tinge when wet, 0.05-0.12(-0.15) mm across, without a proper margin. Proper exciple not developed: epithecium poorly differentiated from the hymenium, blue-green, sometimes with dark brown patches, c. 5 µm high, K-, C-, N+ red, the blue-green pigment rapidly fading in C; hymenium colourless o with blue-green streaks, 19-35 µm high, K-, C-, N+ red, I+ and K/I+ blue; paraphyses few, simple or sparingly branched, 1-1.5(-2) µm thick, the apical cells up to 3 µm wide, some of them with a dark brown-pigmented cap; hypothecium colourless to pale brown. Asci 8-spored, clavate, apically thickened, the wall K/I+ blue, 18-32 x 8-13 µm. Ascospores 0-1-septate, hyaline, narrowly ellipsoid, straight or slightly curved, (7-)8-10(-15) x (1.5-)2(-3) µm. Photobiont micareoid (?), the cells globose, 4-7(-10) µm wide, arranged in clusters. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: thallus without lichen substances.Note: a boreal-montane species found on bleached leaflets of moribund to dead Hylocomium splendens in montane coniferous forests, in the Alps known from a few localities only. The generic position is still unsettled.
