Description: Thallus subleprose, consisting of small, pale to dark green, (8-)10-15 μm wide goniocysts mostly containing a single algal cell, the surface with distinct aculeate, (3-)4-6 μm high papillae. Apothecia short-lived, without a proper margin, very small, mostly 0.1-0.2 mm across, hardly visible when dry, sessile, white, the surface appearing minutely spiny from protruding ascus apices. Proper exciple absent; hymenium lacking gelatine, consisting of 1-1.5(-2) μm thick, branched and anastomosing paraphyses entwining the individual asci; hypothecium absent. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical, thick-walled, with a thick I+ blue apex (except for an apical pore), (75-)95-120(-130) x (22-)25-30(-35) μm. Ascospores 1(-3)-septate, hyaline, ellipsoid, (17-)20-28-(-31) x (7-)8-10(-11) μm, with a smooth wall. Photobiont chlorococcoid (Leptosira). Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: without lichen substances.Note: on plant debris, algal films and moribund bryophytes, more rarely on metal-rich rocks in moist-sheltered, often disturbed habitats. Known from Western Europe, Austria and the Czech Republic, to be looked for in Italy.
