Distribution:
Description: Thallus crustose, non-lichenized, mostly endosubstratic, continuous, appearing as a whitish fleck. Perithecia black, 0.5-1 mm across, semi-immersed. Involucrellum dark brown, dimidiate; exciple dark, absent below the hamathecium; hamathecium of branched and anastomosing, c. 1 µm thick, persistent pseudoparaphyses not inspersed with oil droplets. Asci 8-spored, clavate, thick-walled, the inner wall thickened towards apices, with a shallow, broad ocular chamber. Ascospores muriform, hyaline, long ellipsoid to fusiform, 25-40 x 8-13 µm, surrounded by an epispore well visible in K. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: a probably pantropical species decribed from Greece (type on Olea), in the past frequently confused with other species. To be looked for in Italy.
